Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and according to the Louisiana State Board standard procedures and regulatio! ns accurately prepares medications for dispensing by a pharmacist upon receiving prescriptions from
physicians or other qualified prescribers, enters prescription data into a computer, prints labels, accurately counts medication, and performs various other related duties. Duties may vary according to assigned shift and/or task.
Displays time management skills and is able to multi-task throughout their shift.
Demonstrates actions consistent with Ochsner's" Expectations" as duties are performed on a daily basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A. Education, Experience & Training:
1. High School education or equivalent required. Some college preferred. Previous experience in retail pharmacy preferred.
2. Certified as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Louisiana, or eligible for certification

B. Other Qualifications:
1. Completes the minimum requirements of continuing pharmacy education in order to maintain certification.!
2. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to deal effect! ively and courteously with all members of the health care team and the public.
3. The ability to operate a computer or cash register.
4. Moderate typing skills, approximately 30-40 words per minute, in order to input prescription information into computer system.
5. Ability to read and write in order to process drug orders. Sufficient mathematical ability in order to correctly price medications and determine quantities of drugs to dispense or prepare.
6. Approximately 2 months on the job experience necessary in order to learn:
a. hospital and departmental policies and procedures
b. safety issues
c. In this amount of time acquire knowledge of all computer systems within the department in order to process prescriptions, profiles, pricing, and ordering medications.
7. Has an understanding of medical terminology and processes.

C. Physical Demands
1. This position requires extensive standing in one place for up to 16 hours per day. 2. Will be expected to work various shifts depending on staffing and/or workload. This includes spending more than 0 hours per day or 40 hours per week as departmental needs demand.
3. May be required to remain at the hospital in a state of emergency or promptly return to the hospital immediately following a natural disaster.
