What Nuclear Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health
Nuclear Pharmacy is responsible for providing radiopharmaceuticals and other drugs to medical care providers under highly regulated State and Federal guidelines; may also consult with or advise physicians and nuclear medicine technologists on the safe and efficacious use of radioactive drugs for diagnosis and therapy
What is expected of you for success in your role
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of radiopharmaceutical compounding and dispensing procedures
- Follows basic radiation safety principles as outlined in the corporate radiation safety manual
- Follows established guidelines for the dispensing of routine prescription orders, under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist
- Follows established guidelines for delivery routing
- Assists in non-dispensing activities
- Follows established guidelines for the operation of survey meters, dose calibrators and wipe test analyzers, under direct supervision

Under the immediate direction of a qualified licensed Staff Pharmacist, you will be trained to draw, dispense, and package radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with the regulations of the State Board of Pharmacy.
- Elutes generators and become proficient with dose calibrator, Moly-99 Assay, related calculations, and concentrations. Learns how to identify failure modes
- Dispenses prescriptions and compounds by becoming proficient with vial set up, IV Hood USP 797 preparation, radioactive survey and decontamination, dose calibrator and GM (Geiger-Mueller) survey meter.
- Compounds top 5 radioactive drugs and know the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) compliant technique.
- Draws doses into either a syringe or vial. Demonstrates efficiency by being able to ! dispense a dose in under 90 seconds.
- Learns how to use the Order Receipt and Order Entry systems by becoming familiar with customers, locations, drug names and dosages and customer dose specifications. Knows the Board of Pharmacy state laws and requirements for radioactive order or prescription. Learn how to identify failure modes.
- Understands the radioactive waste return and decay process.
- Performs quality control process by becoming proficient with TOP 10 radioactive Quality Control tests. This will include set up, data entry and use of multi-channel /single-channel analyzers. Learn how to identify failure modes.
- Maintains computer inventory and records to ensure proper utilization of materials and accounting for prescription drugs
- Knows the inventory and regulatory programs by knowing how to handle the incoming and outgoing check-in and packaging. Handle the stock room maintenance and 5S visuals.
- Performs general labo! ratory and facility clean up
- May perform clerical and administ! rative services including maintenance of daily records, preparation of receipts, report preparation, and maintenance of billing records
- Makes deliveries to accounts with company vehicles as needed on a daily basis
- Becomes familiar with the Voice of the Customer/ Voice of the Business /Continuous Improvement/Leadership Essentials by completing a one day shadowing at a customer site and a one day ride-a-long with a sales consultant. Collect and enter Customer Impact Data daily. Do a monthly review of the Pharmacy Scorecard with the manager. Review the Leadership Essentials, complete the White Belt Training in Operational Excellence.
- Performs other job related duties as required to ensure the goals and objectives of the department are met including delivering doses if necessary.
Hours are typically Monday through Friday 5:00 am - 3:00 pm. This will include rotating weekends, holidays and call rotation a minimum of every five weeks. Candidate must be flexible based on business need.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must currently hold a Pharmacy Technician license/registration in state the position resides or a National Pharmacy Technician certificate
- Demonstrated manual dexterity in order to dispense doses, occasional reaching, lifting and holding of small objects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Ability to lift 75 lbs
- Flexibility to work various shifts as needed
- Comfortabl! e working in a nuclear environment
- Comfortable with repetitive tasks
- Intermediate computer skills
- Ability to work weekends or be in a weekend rotation
- Ability to work on call or be in an on call rotation
- Ability to work holidays or be in a holiday rotation
- Past experience drawing doses into a syringe or vial a plus
- Hospital Pharmacy Technician or home infusion experience preferred
