Description GENERAL SUMMARY: Under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, policies and procedures, accurately processes orders, and delivers medications ! to designated areas. Refills and maintains automated dispensing machines. Prices manual medication charges, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy. Enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary. Reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system. Identifies problems with orders and notifies the pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (ie. allergies, height, weight) when needed. Accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures. Maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room, Central Pharmacy, compounded items; bottles, and vials. Performs related clerical duties including light typing, filing, answering phones and greeting customers at the pharmacy window. Duties may vary according to assigned shift and/or task. Demonstrates actions consistent with OHS Servi! ce Principles as duties are performed on a daily basis. MINIMU! M QUALIFICATIONS: A. Education, Experience, and Training: 1) High School graduate with one or more years of college or completion of a para-professional pharmacy training program or Certified Pharmacy Technician licensure preferred. 2) One year of Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred. B. Other Qualifications: 1) Ability to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment. 2) Light typing skills, approximately 20-30 words per minute, in order to type prescription labels and perform computer entry. 3) Ability to operate a computer. 4) Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with all members of the health care team. 5) Basic clerical knowledge is needed in order, to file either alphabetically or numerically. 6) Approximately 1 to 2 months on the job experience necessary in order to learn the hospital and departmental policies and procedures, become familiar with reading physician's and stock orders, become acquainted with drug names. In this amount o! f time also acquire a knowledge of all computer systems in order to fill medications, pre-pack, generate the labels needed throughout the pharmacy, perform order entry and ordering and stocking medications and supplies. C. Physical Demands: 1) This position requires extensive moving about campus and periods of sedentary work of up to 16 hours per day. 2) The ability to maneuver pharmacy medications carts weighing up to 1001bs. in order to deliver IV's, stock orders, and other medications to the floors. 3) Able to climb and descend stairs; stand for up to 16 hours, walk briskly; carry 20-30 lbs., light lifting. 4) Must possess the fine motor skills necessary to compound pharmaceuticals and operate technical equipment.
