In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution. If you are above the maximum entry age and have prior federal law enforcement coverage, you MUST submit an SF-50 to verify prior coverage.

Responsibilities The incumbent serves as a Staff Pharmacist at a Federal Bureau of Prisons' correctional institution. They utilize technical skills and professional judgement to provide medications to inmate patients. Incumbent reviews all prescription orders for appropriateness in regard to medication, dose, route, interval, and contraindications. In order to facilitate quality distribution and administration of medications, the Pharmacist provides medication information to staff and patients as appropriate.
The pharmacist is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the medication delivery system and assures that the integrity of all medications is maintained and is properly stored. The pharmacist is the only independent practitioner who is specifically licensed and authorized to dispense medications.
The pharmacist is responsible for participating in quality assurance activities regarding medications. This includes policy and medication usage and/or audits and the suggestion, authoring, or performance of Drug Utilization Evaluation studies needed to maintain quality patient care and cost effective medication management.
The pharmacist is responsible for the records and reports related to the purchase, receipt and disposition of drugs and related supplies and determines that all medications are properly packaged and labeled and profiles all medication orders and assures that there are no contraindications. They dispense pharmaceuticals in accordance with proper procedures.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Basic Requirements:
Education:
A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

All applicants must have passed the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) . Applicants also must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
All qualified referred candidates will undergo a credentialing process prior to employment with the Bureau of Prisons. This process includes validation of examinations, licensure, education, internship and residency. Evaluation of Experience:
Applicants who meet the Basic Requirements are qualified at the GS-11 level.

On the day of the scheduled interview, a CVA will be administered. The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score must be obtained. Further employment consideration will not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examination or fails to achieve a passing score. Successful completion of the "Introduction to Correctional Techniques," three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required.
This position has been identified as test designated. Incumbents will be subject to urinalysis testing under the BOP Drug Free Workplace Plan.
