What Nuclear Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health
Nuclear Pharmacy is responsible for providing radiopharmaceuticals and other drugs to medical care providers under highly regulated State and Federal guidelines; may also consult with or advise physicians and nuclear medicine technologists on the safe and efficacious use of radioactive drugs for diagnosis and therapy
What is expected of you for success in your role

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of radiopharmaceutical compounding and dispensing procedures
  • Routinely practices basic radiation safety principles in accordance with company policy
  • Compounds and dispenses all prescriptions including specialty and complex orders
  • Independently directs delivery routing
  • Performs scheduled inventory count and re! conciles in computer systems
  • Independently uses all instrumentation required for nuclear pharmacy operations
  • Participates in quarterly testing and calibration of instruments

Accountabilities in this role

  • Elutes product from Mo-99 generator
  • Prepares Tc-99m kit for patient use
  • Draws doses for individual patient use
  • Compounds I-131 doses for patient use
  • Serves an active role in radiation safety program
  • Supervises/oversees running of the facility (known as Pharmacist in Charge)
  • Places special orders for products needed for next days business
  • Radio labels WBC (white blood cells) for infection studies
  • Performs general pharmacy and facility clean up.
  • Trains newly hired pharmacy associates as needed
  • Performs any other duties as required to ensure a safe and efficient pharmacy operation.
Hours will typically be an 8 hour shift (shift work) between the hours of 3:00 am and 4:00 pm. This will include on call responsibilities, weekends and holidays. Candidate must be flexible based on chang! ing business needs.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy or PharmD required
  • Must be a Registered Pharmacist. Registered Pharmacist in the state of Louisiana preferred
  • 0-4 years related pharmacy experience.
  • Comfortable working in a nuclear environment required
  • Demonstrated ability to provide courteous and dependable service to others
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively with customers when taking prescription orders, identify potential problems with orders to circumvent possible misadministration, drug interactions, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively relate written and verbal communications and documentation procedures
  • Demonstrated commitment to the professional ethics adopted by the pharmacy profession
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record is required
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds is required
  • Must have the flexibility to work various shifts/rotate schedules as! required
  • Intermediate computer skills required
  • Ability to work weekends or be in a weekend rotation required
  • Ability to work on call or be in an on call rotation required
  • Ability to work holidays or be in a holiday rotation required
  • Past experience drawing doses into syringes and/or vials
  • Ability to become licensed pharmacist in state(s) of pharmacy operation
  • Prior Authorized User certification is strongly preferred but not required.
Authorized User: As defined in part by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, an individual who has completed a minimum of 700 hours of training in a structured educational program consisting of both didactic training and supervised on the job training in radiation physics, instrumentation, radiation protection, chemistry, math and radiation biology. This is usually divided into two sections: 200 hours of formal course work and 500 hours of supervised experience. For ! current pharmacists, the requirements are the same plus a preceptor statement of training from an Authorized Nuclear Pharmacist.
