Differs from the Pharmacist 7 by the presence of responsibility for directing all pharmacy activities in the Louisiana Medicaid Pharmacy Benefits Management section within the Bureau of Health Services Financing, Department of Health and Hospitals.

Examples of Work:
Plans, develops, and implements the short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the Louisiana Medicaid Pharmacy Benefit Management System.

Prepare the pharmacy portion of the Medicaid budg! et including development of objectives, goals, and performance indicators. Monitor performance indicators to determine deviations/discrepancies from intended goals/objectives.

Monitors and analyzes changes in state and federal laws and regulations related to the Medicaid Pharmacy Program. Determines and implements the necessary changes to policies and procedures to ensure continued compliance.

Initiates policy development, implements new policies, and clarifies existing pharmacy policies which include the services associated with outpatient drugs and all Medicare/Medicaid crossover services.

Respond to request for policy interpretation or information from legislators, legislative auditors, public and private providers, recipients, and the general public.

Provide regulatory supervision regarding the discharge of contractual requirements to contractors (i.e. Pharmacy Audit Contract, Rebate Contract, Reimbursement Contract, Provider Synergie! s Contract, etc.) including fiscal intermediary for activities related ! to the pharmacy program.

Analyzes the programmatic and fiscal impact of state and federal legislation. Provides fiscal notes and operational impact statements in response to legislative action; testify before legislative and Board of Pharmacy Committees.

Identify and report on physician prescribing patterns, variance, and outliers.

Interviews, selects, evaluates, and disciplines pharmacy employees.
