The pharmacy technician will be responsible for
preparing pre-dispensed methadone under the direction of
the Pharmacist-in-Charge/Pharmacist! for administration
to patients by the Medication Nurses as prescribed by
the Medical Director or Program Physician and prepare
take home bottles. He or she ensures accountability and
security of all medication. The Pharmacy Technician will
perform duties within the scope of their license or
certification which are an addendum to this job
description.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:
Professional Development

  • Responsible for the achievement of assigned specific
annual goals and objectives
Training
  • Participate in all trainings as required by federal,
state, local and accrediting agencies
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Preparation of pre-dispensed medication and
take-home bottles under the direction of the
Pharmacist-in-Charge/Pharmacist for administration
by the nursing team
  • Confirm the amount of diskette tablets in newly
  • opened bottles
    • Correctly label all medication! and assist in
    labeling of medication prior to dispensing
    • Verify total number of bottles per mg before
    pharmacist departs; sign initial/name on treatment
    center form as indicated
    • Compute and attach individual page (bottle) “tally
    sheet” to indicate mg total for sheet (only if
    Pharmacist has not already completed same)
    • File sheets in dose/diskette pre-dispensed manuals
    if needed
    • Assist with organizing and maintaining records of
    bottles/mg of pre-dispensed medications available
    for use.
    • Pull medication from established grid daily as
    needed to administer to patients
    • Attach patient labels to take-home bottles of
    medication and attach take-homes to one observed
    dose, as needed
    • Ensure implementation of medical quality health
    standards
    • Report all medication discrepancies p! romptly to the
    Pharmacist-in-Charge/Pharamcist
    • Attend treatment team meetings, as well as outside
    seminars and training to earn continuing education
    requirements and keep updated in the field
    • Hold a basic understanding of drug/alcohol abuse and
    addiction and keep updated on current drug abuse and
    treatment information specifically current trends in
    Opioid maintenance treatment
    • Able to develop professional, helpful and effective
    relationship with patients
    • Able to function as a team member, working in
    conjunction with all other team members in a
    helpful, positive manner
    • Ability to project a positive and professional image
    to the community, in representation of the treatment
    center
    • Attend monthly treatment center in-service trainings
    • Meet BHG attendance standards established by the
    company and be! present and ready to work at the
    beginning of established work sch! edule
    • Available to work due to emergency schedule changes
    as needs of the business dictate
    • Report any work-related injury or illness, workplace
    hazards, or safety and security issues immediately
    to supervisor
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisory team
    Regulatory
    • Responsible for complying with all federal, state
    and local regulatory agency requirements
    • Responsible for complying with all accrediting
    agencies
    Minimum Requirements
    The ideal candidate must be certified by the Louisiana
    Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and must
    provide current licensure and renewal prior to
    expiration. Experience and understanding of chemical
    addiction is preferable. In addition to meeting the
    qualifications, the ideal candidate will embody the
    following characteristics and possess the knowledge,
